APNA Day Centre is committed to providing a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for all staff, volunteers, and service users.
Health and Safety Policy
1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety, and welfare for all staff, service users, volunteers, and visitors at APNA Day Centre. We are committed to preventing accidents, injuries, and ill-health by providing a safe and secure environment.
2. Policy Statement
APNA Day Centre recognises its responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all associated regulations. We will ensure that activities are carried out safely, risk assessments are reviewed, and emergency procedures are practiced.
3. Scope
This policy applies to all employees, volunteers, students, and contractors, as well as all service users and visitors to the Centre. It covers all areas of work, including care rooms, kitchens, activity spaces, transport, and offices.
4. Responsibilities
Manager:
• Implements this policy and ensures compliance with regulations.
• Carries out regular risk assessments and inspections.
• Reports and records accidents and incidents.
• Ensures staff are trained in emergency and evacuation procedures.
All Staff and Volunteers:
• Must follow safe working practices and use equipment correctly.
• Must report hazards, accidents, or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Are responsible for their own health and safety and that of others.
5. Risk Assessment
Risk assessments will be carried out for all areas and reviewed annually or after significant changes. Control measures will be implemented to minimise identified risks.
6. Accidents and Incidents
All accidents, injuries, or near misses must be recorded in the Accident Book and reported to the Manager.
Serious incidents will be reported to RIDDOR and local authorities as required.
7. Fire Safety and Emergency Procedures
Fire drills will be conducted regularly and recorded. Fire exits and equipment will be checked monthly, and staff will be trained in evacuation procedures.
8. First Aid
Adequate first aid supplies will be maintained and accessible. Designated First Aiders will be trained and identified on notice boards. All first aid treatments must be recorded in the First Aid Log.
9. Training
All staff will receive health and safety induction and refresher training annually. Records of all training sessions will be maintained by the Manager.
10. Monitoring and Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if legislation or circumstances change. Findings from audits, risk assessments, and incidents will inform future updates.
